The Federal Election Commission, our nation’s election watchdog, has been effectively shut down since July 4, 2020, because it does not have enough commissioners to do its job. This is the third time the FEC has lost a quorum in its 45-year history, and the second time this year.

When the FEC is broken, who loses? The American people. The clock is ticking to fix this:

This is unacceptable.

The FEC requires at least four commissioners to hold hearings, issue legal advice, enforce existing rules, fine violators, conduct audits, or vote on investigations. But it only has three commissioners now, two of whom are serving on long-expired terms.

Tell President Trump and Senate leaders to immediately fix our broken election enforcement agency by nominating new commissioners who are committed to enforcing the law.

The FEC has now been without the quorum necessary to do its job for the majority of the year, with its last de facto shutdown lasting more than nine months — from September 1, 2019, until June 5, 2020, when Commissioner Trey Trainor was sworn in.
